How are e-cigarette flavors made?

I am not a smoker, but I sometimes appreciate the scent given off by the electronic cigarettes of some of my friends who enjoy this type of “leisure”. When I spend an evening with several of them, my sense of smell is all aroused by passing successively from the smell of Siberian mint to the sweet notes of liquid caramel pulp or wild strawberry. Last Monday, when the exotic and tasty scents emanating from the cigarettes of my neighbors at the table had caused me a kind of aromatic intoxication, I asked myself the question of knowing how the aromas of the latter could well be created so that they are so true to reality.

If you want to make your own mixtures, you would have to use these 4 main ingredients that go into the composition of e-cigarette mixtures:

  • Diluted nicotine
  • Propylene glycol
  • Vegetal glycerine
  • Flavors

Of course, it is much easier to obtain supplies from specialized manufacturers, whose online or city shops are full of the craziest aromas! Among the flavors offered, the 4 existing flavors are represented:

  • Bitter,
  • sweet,
  • dirty,
  • acid,
  • umami

It is possible, to create the aromas, to be based on a real product (vegetable, fruit, caramel, etc.) or synthetic products made in the laboratory. We will then distinguish the natural flavors from those of synthesis.

Here are the different types of aromas that you can find in your e-cigarette:

  • Flavoring solutions extracted exclusively from nature. It can be essential oils, macerates, infusions or distillates.
  • Flavoring substances derived from molecules of natural raw materials. They are obtained after several steps: extraction, purification and concentration.
  • Flavors using molecules produced by chemical synthesis. In reality, artificial molecules are exact copies of molecules that exist in nature, but they are manufactured from scratch in a laboratory.

Natural flavors are sometimes much more expensive than their synthetic equivalents. This is the case, for example, with natural vanilla flavoring, which costs on average 400 times more than its artificial counterpart!

What’s your favorite aroma?

The best-selling flavors are:

  • Tobacco, which of course allows you to rediscover the taste of cigarettes from which you may be trying to wean yourself.
  • Vanilla is one of the most popular flavors. By vaping it, it offers a touch of exoticism.
  • The fruity aromas are also at the top of the basket and especially the red fruits: cherries, strawberries, raspberries….which we will find in e-liquid in all seasons.
  • Little gourmet fantasies: salted butter, hazelnuts, coffee, lemon tart, peach Melba
  • Branded flavors: malabar, cola, tagada strawberry, marshmallow; we could almost eat it!

This is something to enjoy and successfully quit smoking or nicotine.
